Teams
gearing up to study the Musselshell
Musselshell
Coordinators and office staff will be contacting landowners along
the Musselshell River corridor during March and April. Plans are to
conduct a resource assessment in strategic positions along the river.
This will enable watershed groups to make educated decisions in watershed
planning.
The Lower Musselshell Conservation District (LMCD) will be working
in partnership with the Petroleum Conservation District (PCD), the
Garfield Conservation District (GCD), the Upper Musselshell Conservation
District (UMCD), the Upper Musselshell Water Users, Deadman’s Basin
Water Users Association, and the Delphia-Melstone Water Users Association.
The assessment will cover the river from the outlet of Flatwillow
Creek to the confluence of the North and South Fork of the Musselshell.
The
actual fieldwork is scheduled for May 13—24, 2002. The assessment
will include stream channel physical features, riparian vegetation,
acquatic biology, water chemistry, and current and historic land use,
management and trends. Meetings have been held to explain the specifics
of the assessment design and to determine which landowners are willing
to provide permission for the assessment team to work on the river.

A
thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability
and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends
otherwise.
