The Deadman's Basin Water Users Association (DBWUA) consists of 110 irrigators on the Musselshell River encompassing nearly 200 meandering miles between Shawmut and Mosby Montana. DBWUA diverts Musselshell River water into an off-stream storage facility, Deadman's Basin Reservoir, via an 11.5 mile supply canal and delivers contract water via two outlet canals, the 2.85 mile long Barber canal and the 9.5 mile long Careless Canal. Deadman's Basin reservoir has a total capacity of 72,220 acre feet at full pool. There are currently 40,500 acre feet of water contracted for from the reservoir.

NEWS UPDATE
(updated 6/19/16 @ 3:00 p.m.)

The release gates for reservoir are damaged. Temporary repairs failed to improve the situation.

The constant adjusting could lead to a total failure which would drain the reservoir. Additional engineering assistance has been requested to provide a plan that will allow continued releases without further damages.

Therefore, water release changes will be minimized which could result in exceeding orders on certain days and marginal availability on others. Please bear with us during this critical period.

Notify Teri Hice when you wish water and when delivery is completed.

THE MRDP WILL BEGIN AT 6:00 A.M. ON MONDAY, APRIL 25th.

THE 2016 IRRIGATION SEASON DELIVERY PERCENTAGE IS INITIALLY SET AT 75% .

ALL IRRIGATORS MUST HAVE A FUNCTIONING MEASURING DEVICE IN PLACE PRIOR TO ANY CONTRACT WATER DIVERSION!!!

ALL CONTRACT WATER MUST BE ORDERED PRIOR TO DIVERSION

ALLOW 24 HOURS ABOVE RYEGATE

ALLOW 2 DAYS ABOVE LAVINA

ALLOW 3-4 DAYS ABOVE ROUNDUP

ALLOW 4-5 DAYS ABOVE MUSSELSHELL

ALLOW 6 DAYS OR MORE ABOVE MOSBY

The Deadman's Basin Diversion Dam Rehabilitation Project was rebid in February. The low bid received was $250,000 lower than the lowest bid received in 2014. The contract award was issued this week and the project construction will begin August 17th.

The project will consist of replacing the existing radial arm gates with 4 new six foot slide gates and a new concrete structure. The vertical concrete diversion dam will become a gently sloped rock ramp that will be fish friendly.

Total construction costs are currently estimated at $900,000 and will be paid for as follows:

RRGL grant $100,000

RDG Grant $145,000

FEMA Grant $60,000

Future Fisheries Grant $82,400

DBWUA $512,600 (Will be paid from a combination of O&M, Reserve Fund Savings, and Loans)

THE HISTORICAL DATA CHART BELOW REFERS TO THE DELIVERY PERCENTAGE IN PAST YEARS. NOTE THE *** BY THE PERCENTAGE. IT IN NO WAY REFERS TO THIS SEASON. THE DELIVERY PERCENTAGE IS SET IN THE COURT ORDER AND WAS MAILED TO EVERY SHAREHOLDER PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE IRRIGATION SEASON.

PLEASE CALL JOHN ROUANE OR TERI HICE TO ORDER OR CANCEL A WATER ORDER ONCE YOU HAVE FINISHED. MAINTAINING RIVER FLOWS ARE CRITICAL NOW AND DEPEND ON GOOD COMMUNICATION SO THAT ORDERS CAN BE FILLED IN A TIMELY MANNER AND WATER IS NOT WASTED.

PLEASE ORDER WATER SEVERAL DAYS IN ADVANCE OF WITHDRAWAL FROM THE RIVER
